Real Treatment For Substance Use Disorders.
Dr. Loving graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Texas in 1974 and after psychiatric residency, went into the practice of neuropsychiatry. After five years of practice, he joined Neuropsychiatric Associates of Austin led by Dr. Stuart Nemir. Dr. Nemir started the first private 28 day program for drug and alcohol treatment in Austin, Texas and later started the first intensive outpatient program that was one of the first in the country. Dr. Nemir recruited Dr. Loving to help in his programs and soon Dr. Loving became the medical director of both. This began his interest in chemical dependency and the treatment of alcoholics and addicts. He worked closely with Dr. Nemir and Ulysses "Mac" McLester, who was also a well know expert in chemical depenency. Dr. Loving is board certified in psychiatry (since1980) and board certified in Addiction Medicine by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (since1989).
For over 40 years Dr. Loving has treated not only psychiatric patients, and chemically dependent patients, but also people with both psychiatric illness and alcoholism/addiction know as co-occuring disorder. He became Medical Director of Texas Star Recovery in January 2007 and is enthusiastice about being able to devote his full energy to the treatment of chemicaly dependent and co-occuring disorder people.
Karim Said joined PRR in 2022 after managing an addiction medicine clinic in South Austin for 3 years. He enjoys helping others engage in the recovery process and demonstrating that long-term sobriety is possible. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in psychology as a premed student at the University of Texas at Austin and a Masters degree in public health from Tulane University in New Orleans. He earned a medical degree from St. George’s University in 2005.
Amber Anderson joined the staff of PRR in 2023 following years of working as a chemical dependency counselor and supervisor. Amber has worked with a wide range of clients who suffer from substance use disorders including professionals, academia, incarcerated individuals, and clients navigating legal and family, and personal issues. Amber graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Criminal Justice. Amber shares a passion for helping other to find hope and purpose, freedom and happiness, There is hope and freedom from the chains of active addiction.
Kerby Stewart's role at Personal Responsibility Recovery is Spiritual Director for all clients. He is certified by Spiritual Directors International. As spiritual director he meets with every client everyday and serves as a catalyst for the personal transformation recovery requires.
He is often heard saying recovery is not only possible, it is predictable when the individual learns to regain reward from everyday satisfactions bringing joy back into one's life.These pursuits can be accomplished by working the 12 steps so commonly undertaken by many seeking recovery and together they amount to no less than a spiritual transformation. Their accomplishment is not a function of skill nor even "Hard work" and dedication. Rather, they are natural outcomes of turning one's life over,
Bruce earned his B.A. in Psychology from the University of the South in Sewanee, TN, and his M.B.A in Healthcare Administration from Oklahoma City University. Bruce is also a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Intern. He has vast experiences as a physical fitness trainer and physical fitness rehabilitation specialist. He assists our clients with activities of daily living, physical fitness, meals, and substance abuse recovery.
